                           Spread of Location
The Diagram  illustrates the concept of location. Considoring the S E Asia Activities. Modules can be produced at a Specialist Manufacturer in one location whils simultaneously the Hull is being built in another. They can then meet up and be combined to make a Part Completed FPSO. The Part Completed FPSO can then me towed to a European Location where other Modules, packages and Bulks can be added to complete the FPSO. The Completed FPSO can then be towed to its operational location and Put into Operation.
The use of Modules allows parts of the Topsides to be completed in more than one location. Parts of the Topsides (Modules) to be built whilst the Hull is built. The Hull and Topsides to be combined in more than one location.
The Diagram  also illustrates the concept of location. It is similar to the previous but shows how the various  parties interrelate. It is based on a possible contractual arrangements for a Sevan Floating Production and Storage Cylindrical Topsides. There are various centres of activity and they must be interelated to one another. Modules allow one element of the Project, the hull to be produced in a location and the various modules produced in other locations all concurrent. They can then meet up and be combined in another location

Location is one of the major Restaints concerning the economic viability of a Project. If we explore for Oil or Gas then the areas we investigate are those most likely to show large reserves easily exploited at low cost. These ideal finds are not necessarily in the same areas as the market for sales of Crude or Gas, the location for the Construction of a Fixed or Floating Facility to exploit the find or of a suitable Process Plant to process consumable products. The economics of exploiting finds requires capital outlay for equipment, labour and services, these are not necessarily in one location. In the current market situation with Low Crude Price it is important to ensure low first costs, in fact some existing developments may become uneconomic because gross profit is insufficient to give a nett Profit. The emphasis is to pursue the minimal cost to acheive the objectives.  If we talk about construction costs then these will migrate to the Location where suitable bulks, facilities, expertease, low cost Labour exist and where the higher cost items such as complex machinery may be easily brought to the same location. These factors are often different at different locations so the Hull of an FPSO may be constucted at one location, the process topsides at another and complex equipment at various other locations. If we then look at the intended place of operation it may be half a world away and the ultimate market also necessitating some considerable journey.  A feature which has shown to show schedule benifit (see 1c Schedule) is the use of Modules. Modules also show benifit in bringing together activities from various locations and taking them to another location for incorporation in the construction. The below illustrate
